ROEST L100 Plus wins Roasting Innovation Award at 2024 World Coffee Innovation Awards

We’re thrilled to announce that the ROEST L100 Plus sample roaster has won the Roasting Innovation Award at the 2024 World Coffee Innovation Awards held at Caffè Culture Show in London, UK. This award is a testament to ROEST’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of coffee roasting technology and making a tangible impact on the coffee industry. But what sets the ROEST L100 Plus apart, and why has it earned such recognition? Let’s take a look!

Sample roasting is a crucial task that people throughout the coffee value chain take on, from farmers and producers to roasters, specialty coffee shops, and large-scale importers/exporters. It plays a key role in assessing coffee quality, discovering new flavor profiles, and making important purchasing decisions. However, sample roasting can often be labor-intensive, inconsistent, and time-consuming—until now.

The ROEST L100 Plus changes the game by making sample roasting more precise, efficient and consistent. Its cutting-edge features, designed to adapt to different coffees, allow users to achieve optimal roast profiles with minimal intervention. The innovative features are the main reasons it stood out to the judges at the World Coffee Innovation Awards and earned the award in the Roasting Innovation category.

Adaptable roasting profiles for reliable results

One of the most remarkable features of the L100 Plus is its ability to adapt to the beans it’s roasting automatically. With the First Crack Detection feature, the machine listens to the audio cues from the beans and adjusts the roasting time in real time, either extending or shortening the roasting time depending on when first crack is detected. This ensures that each batch receives the right amount of time for optimal development, regardless of the bean type, size, or origin. 

Additionally, the new bean/inlet temperature profile ensures that even if one coffee roasts faster than another, the whole roasting profile adjusts accordingly. This guarantees that each batch is treated uniformly during the same stages of the roast, providing unmatched consistency across various coffee samples

Unparalleled batch consistency 

By incorporating advanced automated features, the L100 Plus removes any guesswork. The automated between-batch protocol (BBP) ensures that every roast starts with the same amount of heat in the drum, leading to more predictable and repeatable results. The drum temperature sensor offers a precise measure of the internal temperature in the roaster, whilst five fast-responding temperature sensors monitor everything that happens during the roasting process, giving the user valuable data to understand each coffee better.

Efficiency that saves time and effort

The roaster’s capacity of up to 200 grams per batch and ability to perform back-to-back roasting makes it the fastest sample roaster available. While one batch cools, another can be roasted, significantly reducing the time required to sample roast. Moreover, the machine’s automatic and adaptable roasting profiles allow users to focus on other tasks, knowing that the L100 Plus will handle the roasting process from start to finish.
