TECHNICAL
+ What are the power supply requirements?
The ROEST Sample roaster is available in three versions:
- Voltage range: 210 ~ 230 VAC.
- Voltage range: 100 VAC.
- Voltage range: 110-120 VAC.
Frequency range: 47 ~ 63Hz.
Power consumption: max. 1650W (reduced to 1550W on the 100V version)
We offer an additional conversion kit, where you can use the machine at any voltage simply by replacing the heating element, fuse, and plug.
We highly recommend using a grounded electrical outlet.
+ What is the capacity?
The capacity of the roaster is minimum 50 grams and maximum 200 grams, but we recommend 100 grams as the optimal size.
+ How long does a typical roast take?
We give the user total control of the roasting time, and it can be as quick as 3 minutes to first crack. Roasting time with ROEST is on average about 6 - 7 minutes.
+ Is it a drum roast?
Yes and No. It is a hybrid, stirred-drum roaster: We have combined the best features from fluid-bed and drum roasters into our design. We use hot air as the main heat source, but we do not use air to move the coffee beans around. So, you are free to manipulate the airflow without any compromise. This way your sample roaster is much closer to production roasters in terms of roasting style.
+ Do you need ventilation?
We recommend connecting a ventilation duct to the outlet from the back of the machine, to collect all fumes from the roasting process. A ventilation hose is included in the purchase of your sample roaster. Simply connect the hose to the back of your machine and connect the other end to your ventilation system or direct the fumes out of a window. You can read more about the ventilation options.
+ Does the machine come in different materials?
All ROEST models are available with a choice of either wood or black versions. The wood version is stainless steel with wood side panels and handles. The black version is stainless steel with black aluminium side panels and black PTFE handles.
+ Can profiles be shared?
Absolutely! Take a look at the online shared library. You can also share profiles directly with other users without posting them to the public library.
+ Do you need an app to control the process?
No. Monitoring, comparison and profile design can be done on any laptop/tablet/phone via a web browser. All our roasters operate independently, and can be controlled directly via the 5" touch screen combined with the rotary encoder knob.
+ How do you clean the machine?
The machine is designed to be easy to clean. You have access to the main fans from the back of the machine. Chaff is collected in a special drawer that can be easily accessed from the front. By removing 4 screws on top of the machine you have access to the ventilation. Here is a tutorial on maintenance.
+ What are the measurements of the machine?
The machine is 266 x 375 x 410 [mm] (width x height x depth (incl. ventilation connector)).
Weight: with wood panels approximately 14 kg, with black panels around 16 kg.
+ Can ROEST be used as a home roaster?
Yes! Actually many of our customers are home roasters. Roasting small amounts of coffee provides a bigger playground for testing various roasting parameters. Changing one parameter at a time helps you to understand what effects it has on the cup. The ROEST sample roaster with its smart technology is easy to operate and doesn’t require too much coffee roasting knowledge at the start. The more you roast and cup, the more you learn.

+ What´s the noise level of the ROEST sample roaster?
The noise is around 58dB, measured 1 meter away from the roaster when the ventilation is connected.
